Really i feel a bit stupid. Unfotunately this is what d does to you from time to time. After the problem of not being able to add just one or two fields to the core contact module, I assumed the user profile would be the same. Wrong.
The user profile fields are fully configurable. You can add practically any type of field you need. Right from core, no contributed modules needed. Super!
Then: So why won't the contact module do this?
